Turning a nightly ritual into an intelligent experience

Loop Earplugs is a globally recognised Belgian brand that turned a functional product - the earplug - into something people actually want to wear. With a loyal following, Loop had already won the bedroom. The next step was to make that presence count every single night.

When Loop asked Nimble to shape and build a digital companion for their sleep experience, we started with a question: what does someone actually need when they reach for their earplugs at bedtime? Over a focused discovery track the answer came into focus. Not a generic wellness app. A ritual. Personal, adaptive, and genuinely useful night after night. What followed was a full design and build from concept to live product, delivered in weeks.
opportunity

Loop's Perspective

Loop had a globally recognised brand in earplugs but no digital layer to deepen the relationship with users beyond the moment of purchase.
The concept was also intended to embed into Loop's connected earplugs app in the near future, turning the physical product into part of a broader intelligent sleep ecosystem.
The app needed to support people in building real sleep habits, adapting to their individual context, and returning every evening.
Healthcare and sleep routines drive the most consistent use, but personalisation is what turns a one-time download into a long-term habit.

The Industry's Perspective

Sleep and wellbeing apps are largely static: pre-recorded libraries, generic coaching scripts, and one-size-fits-all experiences that run out of novelty within days.
That gap created a clear opening: a brand already in millions of bedrooms, ready to become an intelligent, habit-forming digital companion.
The market is heading toward $40B+ by 2030, with the strongest growth in integrated hardware-software solutions, a space Loop was uniquely positioned to own.
What THE CONCEPT COVERS

Crafting a tailored bedtime routine with 5 sleep-supporting essentials

1. Conversational onboarding & nightly check-in

The experience starts with a real conversation: what kind of night is it, what's on your mind, what do you need? No forms. No generic prompts.

2. AI-generated sleep rituals

From the conversation, a fully personalised audio experience is built on the spot: adaptive soundscapes, layered noise textures (white, brown, pink), and a coaching voice guiding the wind-down. No two nights are quite the same.

3. Sleep journal

Every session is saved with a poetic, AI-generated name: "Soft Horizon Drift", "Midnight Forest Calm" making the history feel like a collection of experiences.

4. Persistent storytelling

The app builds a profile over time, surfacing the sessions that helped most and gently coaching toward better sleep.

5. Evidence-based knowledge layer

Expert knowledge bases (CBT-I patterns, breathing protocols, sleep hygiene) inform the coaching without the app ever needing to become a medical product.

Not a platform rebuild

The discovery work set clear boundaries. Loop Sleep is not a tracking or biometric product, the opportunity here is ritual and experience, not data collection.

The V1.0 also deliberately avoided deep integrations with Loop's existing customer database or multi-language support; the goal was to get a live, launchable product into users' hands and learn from real behaviour before expanding the scope.

The THINKING

What the discovery track taught us

1. The strongest product insight was about novelty and its limits.

Content fatigue is the central retention challenge for any audio-first sleep app. Around Day 7, users who don't find something new stop returning. The solution isn't more content; it's a smarter recommendation layer and a memory that makes the app feel like it knows you. That shifted the design priority from generation to personalisation.

2. Streaming audio changed everything about the first impression.

Early versions of the experience required users to wait while their ritual was generated. Switching to streaming TTS where audio begins playing while the rest is still being created, removed the most friction-heavy moment in the user journey. First impressions in a bedtime context are unforgiving; the ritual has to start feeling right immediately.

3. The conversational entry point is also the retention mechanism.

The check-in at the start of each session is the moment the app demonstrates it remembers you. When that works well, it's the reason people come back. When it feels generic, they don't.

4. Speed was a design choice, not really a constraint.

The decision to launch V1.0 in four weeks, with a ruthlessly scoped must-have list, was deliberate. A smaller product that genuinely helps is worth more than a broader one that disappoints. Every feature that didn't make the launch window was explicitly deferred, not dropped and the discipline of that process shaped a team and a codebase that's ready to move fast in the next phase.

What's next?

Loop Sleep V1.0 launched to customers in February 2026 on time, within budget. Loop now has a live digital product that deepens the relationship with users beyond the initial purchase and opens up new opportunities. The ecosystem is just getting started.
